It’s crazy that it has already been a little over two weeks since I arrived in New York. It has been a wonderful time so far seeing new places, meeting new people, and trying new things. Most importantly, God has been teaching me and bringing me closer to Him.

We spent the first week getting to know people at the church and visiting some local places. It was a fun time of fellowship, and a good preparation for ministry. It really is true that pizza and bagels are better here!

This week, we hosted an Arts Camp at the church, and it was incredible. We had about 30 kids show up, and we taught them Art, Music, and Theater each day. We shared the stories of creation, Gideon, and the resurrection of Jesus. Some of the kids had never heard the gospel before this week, and we got to share it with them multiple times! I helped teach theater, and it was a lot of fun acting out these stories with the kids.

One of the things I have learned over these past couple weeks is the depth of Colossians 3:17, “Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” Whether I am at the church most of the day or going to serve the community, both can be done for God’s glory. In the moments it might feel like I haven’t “done” a lot, I can remember that it is more than enough to spend a day in simple worship of God – trusting and obeying Him.

  1. Sophia, Thanks for sharing! In my current season of business, I find that worship stays my heart and refreshes me greatly for the next task. Keep following Him day by day and your activities will continue to be directed by Him while finding peace and refreshment at His feet. I love you! Mom

  2. What a blessing you are, Sophia, to so many, and how greatly has Our Lord blessed you!
You are in our hearts and prayers as we travel to your/our beloved island!
    Love, Nini

  3. Thanks for sharing Sophia! Never tire of doing the “little” things in His Name & for His Glory. He will multiply all your efforts when they are done for His Kingdom. What joy you will have when that day comes when you will see the mighty oaks that sprang from your planting of seeds. We are praying for blessings for you and the whole team.
