God has brought some exciting changes to my life. First, a couple weeks ago, my team and I learned that we will no longer be going to Costa Rica. Instead, we will be serving in Guatemala!

Additionally, this summer (before the World Race), I will be going on mission to Long Island, NY with Go Now Missions. I will be serving at Crossroads Church, helping them start ministering to the college campuses nearby. These colleges have little to no known gospel presence for these students. I am very excited to have the opportunity to prayer walk these campuses, and hopefully share the gospel.

It’s hard to describe how God led me to this second mission opportunity. It came through many doors opening and closing, which required trusting God with every step. Yet, He has brought me here, and I am very thankful for this opportunity to trust him more. One of the questions I have asked myself and God is “Why should I go on a mission trip before going on another mission trip?” As I asked this question, the following Scripture came to mind:

“Another also said, ‘I will follow You, Lord; but first permit me to say goodbye to those at home.’ But Jesus said to him, ‘No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.’” Luke 9:61-62

These are hard words for a hard task. But, following Jesus was never meant to be easy. Thankfully, the Lord guides us every step of the way. When a farmer plows, they have to keep their eyes straight ahead in order to plow well for a good harvest. If they look back, or get distracted, then they ruin their crop. Similarly, Jesus is telling this man to stay focused on Him. Don’t get distracted by other plans or people. Follow Jesus now, and follow Jesus well. No turning back.

Thus, these verses answered my question. I am going on a mission trip before another mission trip because it’s not about the trips. It’s about following Jesus. It’s about following Him wholeheartedly every day of my life.
